The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, indicated during his reception of the “Sovereignty Front” delegation at Baabda Palace that the bilateral negotiations will be undertaken by Lebanon through an official delegation headed by Ambassador Simon Karam, stressing that no other party will replace the state in this mission. He explained that the goal of the negotiation option is to stop hostilities and end the Israeli occupation of the southern regions, leading to the deployment of the Lebanese army to the internationally recognized borders. Aoun revealed that US President Donald Trump showed understanding and response to the Lebanese demand, and intervened with Israel to help with a ceasefire and prepare for a negotiating path that would end the “abnormal situation” and re-extend the state’s sovereignty over its entire territory, pointing to the continuation of contacts to ensure the stabilization of the ceasefire and the start of negotiations with broad national support. He added that the upcoming negotiations will be separate from any other paths, considering that Lebanon has two options: continuing the war with its repercussions, or negotiating to reach permanent stability, stressing that he chose the negotiation path in the hope of saving the country.
